Playwriting Workshop for Beginners

PlaywritingHave you always wanted to write a play but did not know how to get started?

Or have you seen a play and thought to yourself, “I could do better than that”?  Now is your chance.  Geared to the novice playwright, a series of structured writing exercises will culminate in the writing of a ten-minute play that will be ready to submit to short play contests all over the country.

Also, the class will culminate with readings of the ten-minute plays at Off The Wall Theater.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

In 2012 Writers News Weekly named F. J. Hartland one of the top playwrights in Pittsburgh.  He has made a record setting thirteen appearances in the Pittsburgh New Works Festival, winning the award for “Best Play” four times. F.J.’s plays have been published by Samuel French, United Stages, OriginalWorks, and The Louisville Review.  In New York City his plays have been performed at Emerging Artists Theatre, GayFestNYC, the Quaigh Theatre, 13th Street Theatre, Lovecreek Productions, among others.  Currently, F. J. reviews plays for Pittsburgh City Paper. He holds an MFA in Playwriting from Carnegie-Mellon University, where he was a Shubert fellow in Playwriting.
